Comments on ISO/IEC JTC1/SC2 N3090 (FPDAM 17, CJK Unified Ideographs Extension A)
Q1. Ireland approves the PDAM registration Q2. Ireland approves the FPDAM text with the following editorial comments:
1. The table on page 2 should not be a bitmap but should be typeset. Ireland could provide an EPS file of this table if necessary.
2. The point size of the header of all the code tables which reads
Hex Code G - Hanzi - T Kanji Hanja ChuNom
should be reduced so that "CodeG" looks like "Code G" and "HanjaChuNom" looks like "Hanja ChuNom".
3. The IRG should be congratulated for preparing such an excellent and complex document apart from these minor errors.
Attachment 2:Israel
General Israel Votes YES, provided that the relevant (*) national body/bodies also approves this draft - otherwise our vote is ABSTAIN.
(*) Relevant national body = the national body for which this character collection describes its national language.
Attachment 3:Japan
Extended ideographs in the Amendment 17 are unified in the process. The unification rule should be declared in the standard like as Annex T. But the Annex T is now described for dedicated base ideograph characters, and is not applicable to the extended ideograph characters. A new Annex should be added in this amendment. The new Annex is drafted by IRG in the document of SC2/WG2/IRG N379.
This amendment refers to national standards and contributions as sources of ideographs. And some new sources are added in this amendment. So, Annex L (sources of characters) should be updated to reflect these additional sources.

The vote Approval is on condition of approval from the countries concerned.

UK COMMENTS ON ISO/IEC FPDAM.17 CJK UNIFIED IDEOGRAPHS EXTENSION A (SC 2 N 3090)
The UK approves FPDAM 17 with the following comments:
Technical comment.
The lower boundary of the I-zone of the BMP should be changed from 4E00 to 3400 so that this new block of CJK characters will fall within the I-zone, instead of within the A-zone. Similarly the upper boundary of the A-zone should be correspondingly changed. Specifically, in clause 8 of 10646 First Edition, the entries should now be: A-zone 0000 - 33FF I-zone 3400 - 9FFF
Editorial comment
Page 1, at the end of the last line, add the missing code position range "3400 - 4DBF" after the collection name.
Page 2, clause 26. At the beginning of the clause an explanation is required to state: - that the code tables in this clause contain two separate blocks of characters, and - to indicate the sequence in which the blocks are shown.
Since the starting code position for extension-A is 3400, and the starting code position for the CJK of the First Edition is 4E00, the existing convention would be to show Extension-A first, but this sequence may not be the best for the user.
A suggested new first paragraph is: "Detailed code tables for: - CJK unified ideographs (starting at code position 4E00), and - CJK unified ideographs extension A (starting at code position 3400), are shown on the following pages."
