The PCTE standard consists of an Abstract (language-independent) Specification (ISO/IEC 13719-1) and bindings to the C and Ada programming languages (ISO/IEC 13719-2 and 3). These make use of the work of SC22/WG11 in the following ways: - the Abstract Specification and the Bindings use the LID to help define the mappings from the datatypes of the Abstract Specification to the datatypes of the binding languages; - the Bindings use the Guidelines for Language Bindings as guidelines for the definition of the binding strategies. At its first meeting on 27-28 March 1995 WG22 resolved to seek to establish liaison with SC22/WG11 in order to maximize the quality of these aspects of its standards, and to make available to WG11 the benefit of the experience gained in preparing the PCTE standards. WG22 therefore resolved: - to appoint John Dawes (WG22 Project Editor) liaison officer from SC22/WG22 to SC22/WG11; - to invite WG11 to comment on the use of language-independent standards and guidelines in the present PCTE standards; - to seek ways through liaison with WG11 to make the experience gained in producing the PCTE language-independent standard and bindings available to a wider audience. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Annex: resolution 315 of SC22 1994 Plenary meeting ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22 notes with pleasure the successful outcome of the ballot resolution meeting for DIS 13719 Portable Common Tools Environment (PCTE) in Geneva, and assigns project 22.47 to a new working group, WG22 - PCTE, with the following terms of reference: to maintain and develop the three parts of the ISO/IEC 13719 PCTE standard; to develop further standards, complementary to that standard and directs WG22 - PCTE to establish appropriate working relationships with other organisations involved in PCTE development, such as ECMA/TC33; and to establish liaisons with other JTC1 bodies that are working in related fields, such as SC21/WG3 - Database and SC7/WG11 - Software engineering data description. ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22 further accepts the offer of France for the nomination of Mr Regis Minot as convener of WG22 - PCTE; accepts the offer of UK for the nomination of Mr John Dawes as project editor for WG22 - PCTE; and, subject to endorsement by a national body, accepts the ECMA proposal to provide the secretariat of WG22 - PCTE. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
